Panasonic Lumix dmc gx80 – My New Favourite Toy

Just over a week ago, I decided to throw caution to the wind and treat myself to something big! Normally, I am incredibly careful with my money, but this is something I’ve wanted for a while, so decided it was finally time to take the plunge. I am of course talking about buying a camera.

I wanted a camera for a multitude of reasons, however the most important reasons were:

1.         To collect content for my social media and blog.

2.         To take travelling.

With this in mind, I needed something lightweight, unimposing but still with a high quality. After a lot of research, the camera I decided to go for was the Panasonic Lumix dmc gx80. This is why I love it!

The Lumix dmc gx80 comes wit a 12-32mm lens, that combines 4k photo and video capabilities. This is perfect for getting every shot, as well as being a practical camera if I ever decide to start vlogging alongside my blog. It also has Panasonic’s new 5-axis Dual Image Stabiliser to guarantee steady pictures and video. The Lumix dmc gx80 is a mirrorless camera, which is growing in popularity.

Mirrorless cameras have the advantage of usually being lighter, more compact, faster and better for video; but that comes at the cost of access to fewer lenses and accessories. In comparison, DSLRs advantages include a wider selection of lenses and better optical viewfinders. However, Panasonic actually have a range of lenses that can work with the Lumix dmc gx80. This includes wide angled lens ranging from 45-150mm, right own to 6.5mm circular fisheye lenses. This camera also has a built in viewfinder, which isn’t very common on mirrorless cameras. This is what I feel makes the Lumix dmc gx80 so great! It combines the best bit of a DSLR whilst having the compactness and weight of a mirrorless. Personally, I find it way easier to carry and also feel that, especially when collecting content for my blog, it’s less opposing if I use my Lumix outside a shop or on the street.

Some of it’s other amazing features include self timer delay, 16MP resolution and a touch screen display. However, my personal favourite function Is the 4k photo function, allowing to catch the best shot every time! The Lumix dmc gx80 has 3 modes: 4k Burst, 4K Burst (S/S) and 4K Pre Burst – each one brilliant at capturing specific moments. 4K Burst is perfect for capturing the best shot of fast moving subjects such as transportation or sport, whereas 4K Burst (S/S) is great for capturing unpredictable photo opportunities, such as animals or children. Both of these modes capture images at 30 frames/second and have a continuous recording length of up to 29minutes and 59 seconds. My personal favourite is the 4K Pre-Burst, which works brilliantly for recording as needed whenever a photo opportunity arises, such as when a ball is thrown. The burst recording is performed c. 1 second before and after the shutter is pressed, allowing you to be certain you’re getting the best shot!

The reason I love the 4K Pre-Burst mode so much? I am absolutely awful at posing for photos!! I love this mode as it allows me to do small movements and act more naturally, and the camera will do the hard work – capturing the perfect shot!

Overall, I think this camera is a brilliant camera for someone like me. I needed something lightweight and compact, great for photos on the go. I think it is a good entry level camera for anybody out there who, just like me, wants to step into the world of photography, without spending a fortune on a camera.

Hopefully, this has given you an insight into the wonderful Panasonic Lumix dmc gx80, if it persuaded you to go it a look, then I’m very happy!
